Progress of IFMIF/EVEDA and IFERC projects of the BA activities

Ohira, Shigeru

no journal, ,

Progress of two among three activities the BA Activities at the IFERC Site of Rokkasho, Aomori, is presented. Regarding the engineering design, the Interim Engineering Design Report was summarized in June 2013. Now the first stage preparation of the validation tests of IFMIF Prototype Accelerator is almost done. Due to some risks, re-scheduling is now being tried for completion of the validation test within the period for the BA Activities. Regarding ELTL, the goals for validation have been almost achieved. The test will end at the end of October. The 3 sub-projects of IFERC, for supporting ITER and development DEMO, good progress has been achieved. Joint work of EU and Japan for DEMO Design is in progress and also R&D items related closely to the Design selected and implemented are in progress. Regarding CSC, the High Performance Computer, high usage rate has been maintained resulting in a lot of publications. Development of the facilities of REC will be initiated soon.

The International Fusion Materials Irradiation Facility (IFMIF) aims to provide an accelerator-based, D-Li neutron source to produce high energy neutrons at sufficient intensity and irradiation volume for DEMO reactor materials qualification. The IFMIF/EVEDA project, which is part of the Broader Approach (BA) agreement between Japan and EU, has the mission to work on the engineering design of IFMIF and to validate the main technological challenges. The prototype accelerator being developed in the IFMIF-EVEDA project consists of an injector, a RFQ accelerator, and a part of superconducting Linac. The design of the cryoplant for SRF-linac has been already completed and it will be started to install to the facility from coming September after the licensing. This article describes the cryoplant for the IFMIF/EVEDA prototype accelerator facility.
